- Mares Forest Creek is at Wombeyan Caves, North of Goulburn. It is a grade 3 canyon with no abseils. There are plenty of swims and wades. The canyon features beautiful limestone cliff walls and an excellent swimming hole with jumps and a slide. A wet suit is recommended. On Tues 11 Feb we arrive at Wombeyan Caves, set up camp and visit some of the caves. Camping and cave visitation fees apply. The camping ground has excellent facilities. On Wed 12 Feb, starting mid morning, there is a short walk to the limestone gorge which we follow upstream for 1 km, returning the same way and finishing mid afternoon. It is possible to drive from Sydney or the Blue Mountains and return the same day. (3 hours drive from Katoomba via Oberon or 3 ½ hours from Parramatta via Goulburn). You can choose to camp overnight or travel down and back on the same day. Due to the current bushfire situation the Wombeyan Caves National Park is closed until 31st Jan. The decision will be reviewed mid January
