Description
The walk starts on the Mount Banks Road just a few hundred meters off Bells Line of Road. We head east along Carmathen Ridge to Yerra Crags. Distance 15 km, estimated walk time 8hrs, very much off track. The view to the south of Mount Dixon, Strzelecki and Mount Caley is the high point of the walk. We also pass south of the exit from Claustral Canyon. I suspect the full ridge is rarely walked. I last did it this walk with Peter Medbury in 2011. This is a hard walk along a ridge that is overgrown. We will be starting at 8 am. If progress is slow, we will head along the side ridge beforehand see attached map. This ridge has some aboriginal carvings. Peter Medbury calls it Stapleton Crag, after Granville Stapleton who spent several weeks measuring the ridges in the early 1800s.
