Mares Forest Creek at Wombeyan Caves
Mares Forest Creek involves swimming through a spectacular gorge with turquoise water and Limestone walls. It is really unique. It is a two day camping trip and campsites at Wombeyan Caves must be booked. 14 Feb Drive to Wombeyan Caves via the Oberon Taralga Road. Set up camp. Do a short bushwalk or visit a cave. (fees apply) 15 Feb Pack up camp. Visit a cave (fees apply) Swim and wade up Mares Creek. Members must be competent swimmers, able to float and tread water. Wetsuits and floatation devices are optional. There an excellent swimming hole near our lunch spot. We reverse the canyon downstream then drive home. Some members may like to drive down on 15 Feb just for Mares Creek. Let me know when you apply

Middle Du Faur Creek
[This activity description has changed since it was originally posted. The original description included a section of Du Faur Creek that was further downstream.] We will leave Bells Line of Road and head North down a long ridge, meeting Du Faur Creek at 523878. From there we will walk, wade and swim for about 1.5 km down the creek, exiting near 525888. I estimate the trip will be about 11 km, taking around 6 or 7 hours. All the walk is off-track. There may be some rock scrambling. Most of the section along Du Faur Creek is exploratory for the leader. I am not sure how much swimming there will be so participants must be strong swimmers.

Christmas Lights - Grand Canyon by Night
Grand Canyon at night sparkles with glow worms! If you haven't done it by night it is worth stumbling over wet rocks in the dark to see them. And for those that have done it, it is always a great trip. There is only one 17m overhanging abseil at the start but after that there is a lot of wading, scrambling and a few swims with the extra challenge of being dark. Despite being summer it gets cold at night in the canyon, particular after the first swim. Wetsuits and all the usual abseiling gear is needed, as well as a waterproof torch and spare batteries. We will start a bit before sunset but won't be back at the cars until late, probably around 11:00 pm. Like previous years, we will bring a bit of Christmas fare and have a late night feast at the end of the canyon before climbing back up to the cars.

unknown canyon near corkscrew
Megan and I explored the bottom of a canyon that goes from corkscrew canyon towards Bells Line of Road but were stopped by a waterfall with more canyon above. We will explore the canyon from the top and abseil the waterfall/s, then do a section of corkscrew canyon and back to cars on Bells Line of Road. Relatively short entry/exit.
