- Description
- The walk begins on the S side of Hat Hill Creek Blackheath and takes us on a pleasant walk through bushland to upper Hat Hill Creek. Following a rough track, we descend to the creek then begin climbing in and out of the spurs that extend from Burromoko Ridge. This is rugged pagoda country only 2km from Blackheath. The climbs are steep. Weathering of ironstone and sandstone, plus a little imagination has produced a giant armchair, three little sisters and a top hat carved out of rock. The scenery is weathered sandstone at its best. The walk ends with a magnificent hanging swamp waterfall and a huge cave. There is a rope assisted climb of a rock face to complete the walk. The total distance travelled is around 6 km. Scrambling up rocks and descending steep ridges is involved. There are several creek crossings in ankle deep water. It is possible to stay dry for the whole walk. The meeting place is a short distance from Blackheath Railway station. Transport will be arranged to and from the walk.
