- Description
- Galong Creek is a special pink granite formation in the Megalong Valley Near Blackheath. The walk begins from Green Gully and follows the creek into a steep sided gorge with magnificent pink walls. It is easy walking with some shallow creek crossings. There is a rope assisted 4m scramble down a rockface to the main waterfall. From here we return up stream and climb onto the Breadknife, a narrow ridge that takes us below the waterfall. We explore the pink granite formations further down stream, then climb out on Butterknife ridge, a very steep climb. There will be frequent rests. After Crossing the Breadknife we descend into Galong Creek and return to our vehicles. The distance covered is around 6 km. It is mainly off track, in the creek and on steep narrow ridges. Ascent 180m. The walk will be conducted at a slower pace.
