Description
This course is an introduction to navigating in the bush using map and compass. It is suitable for members who walk regularly with UBMBC and want to extend their navigation skills. The course covers topographic map symbols, terrain features, scale, grid lines, contour lines, magnetic declination, bearings and estimating distance. Participants will practise these skills in a suburban park at Blackheath before venturing into the bush at Hat Hill to attempt a navigation course. The course includes wonderful scenery, historic artefacts, cryptic clues and prizes. Maps will be provided. Members will need their own compass. A Silva Ranger M5 is recommended. GPS and phone navigating are not part of this course.
