Description
This is short notice and have put it on again after cancelling it recently. The road access is going to close in May and won't be open again until December, so I thought I'd put it on while it is still accessible. Fortress is a fun little canyon, the view from the lunch spot where where Fortress Creek plunges into the Grose Valley is spectacular. In recent years the lunch spot has become a very popular walk and can be overcrowded but on a Friday and with the days getting cooler it should be fairly quiet. The walk out across the open plateau is also outstanding with great views on both sides across the Grose Valley. The canyon itself has only 1-2 short abseils, but it makes up for it with a few attractive sections. The water in late April will be getting cool so a good wetsuit is recommended as some of the swims are longish. The canyon isn't one of the most spectacular but taken with the lunch spot and the walkout it it is a great trip and one always worth doing again. It is an 8km round trip with an ascent of about 200m.
