Description
A relaxed afternoon trip through the famous Grand Canyon. The fun starts with an 18 metre easy overhanging abseil, (which can be walked down) It is suitable for beginners but the way it plunges into a black hole gives it an exciting edge. Then we follow the creek through an obstacle course of scrambling over small boulders and logs interspersed with short swims and wading. This trip is a longer than Empress Falls canyon, the beauty and serenity of this canyon will surprise you, with ferny glades and towering rock walls providing a spectacular setting. Shortly before the end is a 30 meter swim, which is the longest swim in the entire canyon. The water is normally cold so a wetsuit is highly recommended. The whole canyon shouldn't take us more than 3-4 hours to complete. The walk out takes about 45 minutes through temperate rainforest. Getting there: Drive to Blackheath and turn onto Evans Lookout road. Drive most of the way along it until you see a car park on the right hand side of the road called Neates Glen carpark - meet there at 11.30am Bring a head torch as we walk through a short tunnel on way in and just in case we get delayed. Bring a dry bag and change of clothes for end.
