Description
Range Creek Canyon (Hobnail canyon) is entered by walking downhill from the intersection of Bells Line of Roads and Range Hill Fire Trail. The two abseils are suitable for less experienced canyoners, though I should point out that this is my first time leading for UBMBC (I have led lots of canyons in the past). It will take one day. The creek is scrubby for the first 300 metres but walking soon becomes easier. The canyoning section involves lots of creek walking including rock scrambling and the occasional short swim. Near the exit there is a stunning gorge and a nice swimming hole (if time permits). The exit has a short scramble at the start (this can be belayed, if required), with the remaining exit a walk up a steep but moderately defined track that leads back to the fire trail.
