Watertrough Hill to December Creek Wed Dec 14th 2022

Date:

Category:
Day Walk

Days:
1

Grade:
4 MH

Description
The walk starts at Watertrough Hill and heads east for 1 km, then north, crossing Bell Creek and December Creek just before it joins Wollangambe River. We then climb “Harold’s Hill” and do a small circular route with magnificent views over the rivers and an intricate (but straightforward) descent back to December Creek. We ascend a different side creek to our earlier descent to December Creek, rejoin our original route and return to Watertrough Hill. The walk follows attractive ridges and has interesting creek crossings. Just before we reach December Creek there is a small hanging swamp where we saw a mass mating of Giant Dragonflies two years ago (on Dec 2nd). The best advice of the UBMBC Entomologist is that such a mating is likely to be delayed this year, and we have our fingers crossed for a repeat occurrence. Walk length is 11km with 700 m of ascent. Estimated walk time approx. 7 to 8 hrs.
